22 Jul 2009 - Planning to live in France ?

News >>

As a newcomer living in France, you have 2 possibilities to insure your health:

1. The easiest one is to get a private insurance called “1st euro insurance” either for your travel insurance (short term insurance including usually also civil liability, assistance, repatriation...etc.) or for an expatriate or "impatriate" insurance.

2. The other possibility, for permanent residents in France only, is to obtain the French social security and get a top-up private insurance called a “complémentaire” or “mutuelle complémentaire”. If you are working for a French company, you will benefit automatically from the French social security. The company will have or not a mutuelle complémentaire, if not you will have to choose one yourself. If you are not working for a French company, depending on your status, you may be eligible for the social security and it is then a question of choice.
